TRICARE Plans

TRICARE provides comprehensive health care services for servicemembers and their dependents through a network of authorized providers and military facilities. Reservists, National Guard members and their dependents are eligible under certain conditions, and TRICARE has plans for retirees. Use the links below to learn about TRICARE's various health plans

Active Duty Servicemembers & Their Dependents

  • TRICARE Standard

TRICARE Standard provides servicemembers and their dependents with health care and services from authorized physicians on a fee-for-service basis. Minimum deductibles and copayments must be met before plan benefits begin.

  • TRICARE Extra

With TRICARE Extra, servicemembers and their dependents can receive health care and services from authorized physicians on a fee-for-service basis, like with TRICARE Standard. However, TRICARE Extra can save you money on up-front fees when you use authorized providers.

  • TRICARE Prime

Active duty servicemembers and their dependents have access to free health care at military treatment facilities (MTF) through TRICARE Prime. Servicemembers are automatically enrolled, but dependents must enroll.

Reservists & National Guard Members
Separating From Active Duty

  • Transitional Assistance Management Program (TAMP)

TAMP assists servicemembers in maintaining TRICARE health care coverage until nonservice related options take effect after transition back to reservist status. Servicemembers, their families and eligible dependents may receive TAMP for up to 180 days.

  • TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS)

TRICARE Reserve Select offers Reservists and National Guard Members health care coverage similar to TRICARE Extra or TRICARE Standard. Eligibility begins after TAMP coverage ends.

Servicemembers Overseas & Their Dependents

  • TRICARE Overseas

TRICARE benefits can be used while a military family is stationed overseas. The dependents of active duty servicemembers have the option of using either TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Standard. Retirees and their dependents are only entitled to TRICARE Standard.

Additional Plans

  • TRICARE Prime Remote

Servicemembers and their families who live and work more than one hour or 50 miles away from the nearest military treatment facility in the United States are eligible.

  • TRICARE Plus

TRICARE Plus is a new military treatment facility access plan available to those who are eligible for TRICARE benefits, and who are not enrolled in Medicare, TRICARE Prime or another HMO. The program runs on a space-available basis.

More TRICARE Benefits

  • Maternity Care

TRICARE beneficiaries who are expectant mothers are eligible for prenatal and postpartum health care benefits.
